THE CHARITIES
Children’s Village
Dobbs Ferry, NY
10522
This year the 41-74 Philanthropic Committee has selected two charities to bless during this holiday season. The Children’s Village Foster Facility and Program was chosen to receive the gifts you bring every year to the luncheon but this year we are asking that you think about the older children that are often left out.
The Children’s Village, founded in 1851, provides residential care for troubled children from all over the NYC area, as well as counseling programs for youth and their families.
The Residential Treatment Center (RTC) offers therapeutic care for emotionally troubled boys aged 5-20. The Work Appreciation for Youth (WAY) program is a work program that provides work-ethics training and a professional mentor for adolescents. In short, they help children and families who are struggling to become productive, independent citizens who will enrich their communities and their future families.

Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York, rooted in the Catholic tradition and guided by the lives of Saint Therese Liseux and Saint Peter Claver, transforms caring into action to deliver services, programs and direction to improve the lives of any and all children, families and adults in need.
In 1929, the parishioners of St. Peter Claver 's Church in Bedford Stuyvesant, concerned about neighborhood children, established a summer camp on the shores of the Long Island Sound. As the economic situation worsened, the summer camp evolved into a year round school. Over time municipalities were confronted with growing numbers of children who needed placement away from their homes. Little Flower responded to this need by developing a
Residential
Treatment
Center .
20,000 children per year enter the foster care system in NYC. At least 50% of children that enter the system stay in it for years and many are unable to be placed in adoption or in foster care due to the emotional damage done by the adults in their lives. There is a huge need in this realm and many of the children cared for and schooled at the three facilities at Little Flower have severe emotional problems. These children “have seen things no one should ever have seen” a quote given by an employee of Little Flower.
